Peugeot has announced the price for its new 270bhp RCZ R, and it's a bit on the expensive side. The oh-so-sexy souped-up RCZ will cost you €42,900 (about $57,010), which, here in France, is a good €11,000 more than the equally-FWD and similarly powered (at 265bhp) Renault Mégane R.S, and €11,750 more than a Ford Focus ST.
That being said, it's €8,800 less expensive than Audi's TTS, althought with that you get AWD. Peugeot may be a bit greedy here, but after all the regular RCZ has been a critical and commercial success, so I wouldn't be surprised if the R version turns out to be more than pretty good. And although hot hatches such as the Mégane and the Focus may be cheaper, with the RCZ you get a much prettier car, a limited-slip diff as standard, and a really nice interior featuring a leather dash, a fancy clock and probably some of the coolest-looking bucket seats I've ever seen. And it's still a cheaper way to get a double-bubble roof than the new Viper, or, you know, a Zagato.

I can't pretend like I don't see the similarities with the TT, but I fail to see what's Beetle-like about it. Are we talking about the present-day Beetle or the real one ?

Personally I see an Audi 350Z TT.

Last time I saw it, i noticed GT-R in the front, TT in the middle, and last-gen Eclipse in the rear. I still see that!

Present day. The way the fenders bulge out. Especially from the back, looking forward.

Wait...did someone say take a Beetle R and squish it?

Ok, I see it now. So the Peugeot looks like a squashed Beetle then. Wait, does that mean it's a 911 ?

Right, I do see that similarity. While the RCZ is an older design than the New New Beetle, the old New Beetle had something similar. The old New Beetle looks very distinctively different though.

I don't think I would ever buy one (if they sold them here in Canada), but I would be happy to see them on the streets.

The new New Beetle is pretty awesome I think. It's completely lost the "barbie's car" vibe the old one had, and it looks both cute and sporty now. Also, here in France VW sells it offically as the Coccinelle ("Ladybug") which is what we used to call the old one (the old old one, not the old new one). I think that's pretty cool of them.
